In Four Hundred Souls: A Community History of African America, 1619-2019, editors Ibram X. Kendi and Keisha N. Blain have assembled an extraordinary chorus of voices that includes ninety writers. Encompassing a range of styles from historical essays and short stories to personal vignettes and fiery polemics, each contributor takes on a five-year period in the four-hundred-year journey of African Americans from 1619 to the present.
